I'm here at my new snazzy apartment hanging out on the floor while my boyfriend work on making a paper lamp. I'm tired of working on fashion illustration so I thought I'd show some of the projects I've been working on. A ll of these pictures where taken with my phone so needless to say the quality is amazing.
So for the first project we had to create a line of clothing based off a car chosen at random. We had to make a consumer board, inspiration board, power point, and 35 garment design (Plus draping on a mannequin, not my favorite). I got the Camero and decided to go with a z-28. This is my consumer board, can you get a vague sense of who my costumer is?
If you guessed she's a cheeky geeky Japanese girl who's a mechanical engineer grad in her mid 20's who makes her living from illegally tuning and drag racing cars then you are right on the money. She lives off junk food, has a fondness for the 70's (hence the tuned up z-28), and isn't afraid to indulge in a bit of tackiness.
Personally I think she's a really cool chick. And ya, this is a SUPER specific customer. Onwards to the inspiration board!
I based my inspiration boards off 2012 trends i thought would apply to my costumer. I accumulated these future trends from interior design website and 2012 movies that are currently in production. I integrated the 'Comic Palette', a series of bright (not neon!) colors that are seen in older comic books and the funny papers. I incorporated different textures, pulling inspiration from the quilted chair and ribbed table above. I also included facets and sleek angles, which is currently booming in the trend scene now.
I'll spare you all my power point because A), I'm not sure I could upload it, and B) It's 20 slides long, but I believe it turned out beautifully, which is not something one can usually say about PowerPoint.
Long project short, I got a 99 as my final grade. I received the highest grade in the class and am currently chugging along on my next line, a RTW brand called Smitten. Its inspired by the fairytale Hansel and Gretel and has scalloping detail GALORE!
Here's a sneak peek at my mood board...
and some of my illustrations from a photograph off the computer. Ya, I'm all about these high quality pictures. 72 ppi all the way!
All right, that's all for now. Hopefully I'll load up the rest of my Smitten project once I finish. Hope every one is doing well!
